March 25, is the Feast of the Annunciation, when we celebrate the angel Gabriel’s appearance to Mary with God’s request that she become the mother of Jesus. Fittingly, this feast occurs 9 months before Christmas.
A wonderful way to tie these two feasts together, and thank God and Mary for our Savior, is to spiritually adopt an unborn child. Spiritual adoption is a simple pledge to say a short prayer every day for 9 months, to protect an unborn child. There is no cost except 15 seconds of your time every day (but you will be rewarded in eternity!).
Abortion-vulnerable women and children may be in even more danger right now, with the confusion and financial distress caused by the coronavirus. Will you please consider signing up by e-mail this year, as we cannot have our pledge drive at church? To sign up, simply e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and how many babies you will pray for. If you would like to choose boy or girl, and/or a name for your baby, you may send that information as well. This can be done by individuals or families.
We will keep track of how many people we have praying, how many babies are adopted (some folks like to adopt more than one), and put any names that are sent on heart stickers on the Spiritual Adoption board. It will hang by the 14th St. door of the church as soon as it is safe to do so.
Please start praying one of the prayers below on March 25, every day until December 25. You will receive monthly e-mail updates on your baby’s development.
There is also a wonderful program for families/kids (that adults might enjoy too!) created by Holy Heroes. It is very kid-friendly, and focuses on the development and humanity of the unborn child. You may sign up for their e-mails here: https://www.holyheroes.com/Spiritual-Adoption-s/92.htm
At Christmas time, we invite you to celebrate the birth of your adopted baby by contributing to the baby items for Birthright that we place under our parish Christmas tree. When you celebrate Christmas at home, why not sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus and to the babies you spiritually adopted. There are many ways you could celebrate that somewhere, a child is born because of your prayers.
Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
May God bless you with good health in this trying time,
Nativity B.V.M. Spiritual Adoption Team
