May 31st Message from Father Bob

Dear Parishioners and Friends Near and Far,

It is the Great Feast of Pentecost!

It is the Great Birthday of our Church!!

It is the Great Receiving of the Holy Spirit!!!

It is the first Great Opening of our church on a weekend!!!!

Please follow the directives of our ushers. Please stay at least 6 feet apart and you are to wear a facial covering or a mask. Thank you to all who have volunteered to usher and/or be part of the “Pew Crew” with the sanitizing before and after Mass for our protection.

50 days after the resurrection of Jesus, tongues of fire, the rushing of the wind, and the speaking in tongues, all manifest the dramatic coming of the Holy Spirit upon the believers. This is commonly understood to be the birth of the church. When Jesus first appeared after the resurrection through lock doors, his first attempt to grant peace to his disciples failed. But when he showed his hands and feet they believed. Jesus then immediately moves from peace to commissioning and sending the Holy Spirit. We too are commissioned to share the Spirit to all around us and beyond. This virus has made this even more challenging. But, I believe, more people are praying now than ever before. Even people without religion are praying to this Holy Spirit.

Did you ever hear of St Petronilla? For the first time in all my years I just read about her!  I had seen where her remains are at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome in 1975. She is believed to be the daughter of St. Peter. She is the only apostle’s child who is recognized by the church as a saint. Not much is known about her except that she probably devoted her life to taking care of her father. Her relics are under the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica. We pray for her and the Holy Spirit to please care for us now.

Some more virus humor:

When this quarantine is over, let’s not tell some people.

The dumbest thing I ever bought was a 2020 planner….
