March 7th message from Father Bob

From the Pastor’s Desk,

Hope you are staying healthy and safe. Many people have already received their vaccine or vaccines. It is important to follow the directions of the Center for Disease Control. Thank you to all who help keep our church sanitized and safe.

When we were children in case of a fire we were instructed to stop, drop, and roll. Saint Padre Pio had a famous piece of advice that is just as simple to remember: Pray, Hope, and Don’t Worry. It was this very time last year that we were instructed that everything public including churches had to close. It was a sad time. There were no St. Patrick’s Day parades, no celebration of Saint Joseph publicly, and Holy Week and Easter had to be celebrated privately at home. This year the Worship Commission and I are working on how Holy Week will be celebrated in our church with some minor changes. There won’t be individual candles used, no washing your feet, no kissing of the cross, no communal singing, etc. But we will still celebrate these holiest of days. We will soon be taking reservations for Masses for Easter Sunday.

Father Joseph Morris from Georgia will be here on Monday, March 15th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM to present ‘Saint Mark’s LIVE.’ He has memorized the gospel of St. Mark and presents it dramatically.  Jesus being totally human experienced some times of anger. Justified anger!! In the Gospel this weekend Jesus was very angry. Jesus accuses the temple’s custodians of making it a “marketplace.” This is not a condemnation of the buying and selling of animals. This is much more serious than that. Jesus is condemning the whole temple system. The temple was to be a place where God’s presence was available to all who sought it. It should embrace all aspects of peace and justice manifested through prayer and sacrifice. But it had done none of
this according to Jesus’s accusation.

Jesus’s body is now the Temple. The Jews thought Jesus was talking about a temple constructed with stones and mortar. In fact, He was talking about His body, which would be crucified but after three days rise from the dead. Even the disciple’s needed time to understand what Jesus meant by this: The Body of Christ.

A little weekend humor:

A frustrated wife said her definition of retirement: Twice as much husband and half as much money.

With Him and His Mom,
